Affectionately known as “the heart of Hermanus” Village Square caters to the needs of residents and tourists alike. As the name suggests, it is conveniently situated in the heart of the old fisherman’s village just above the Old Harbour, in close proximity to the major tourist attractions and accommodation establishments. In fact some of the old fisherman’s cottages still stand on the piazza and though declared heritage sites with original brickwork and walls, are now home to cozy and intimate restaurants – well worth a visit for that special candle light occasion.

Another reason is the double-volume arcade that runs through Village Square. This light and airy space is always alive with shoppers who are attracted to the eclectic mix of retail available from the more than 30 shops. The diverse offerings range from fashion boutiques to novelty, curio and gift shops. There are also clothing shops, jewellery stores, kiddies’ shops, home appliance stores, art galleries, . photo shops, cellular shops and a forex exchange with postal service.
Each shop has its own unique character and offers speciality items unlike anything that can be found in commercial shops with mass-produced merchandise elsewhere in Hermanus.

The gastronomic offerings are equally varied, with coffee shops, cafés and bars serving drinks, cocktails, breakfasts and light lunches. The center also has one of the biggest concentrations of restaurants in Hermanus with over 12 restaurants, where some of the town’s most popular chefs are serving up excellent cuisine, be it for break- fast, lunch or dinner, accompanied by an extensive wine list that features many of the region’s premium award-winning wines.
